Killing in the Name was Rage Against the Machine’s first single, in 1992. Released over twenty years ago, its rage against police brutality and institutional racism is still fresh today, unfortunately.
In 2009, it was used as part of a campaign to prevent X-Factor’s winner from taking the Christmas number one for the fifth year in a row. Killing in the Name became the first Christmas number one based on downloads alone (very interesting to read about.)
“And now you do what they told ya…And now you do what they told ya…
“Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me! …Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me!”
